Gresham Palace
The Art Nouveau Gresham Palace is one of the most beautiful buildings on the riverside, the palace was built in 1906 for the British Gresham Company. The remarkable building was designed by a local architect Zsigmond Quittner, located opposite Szechenyi Chain Bridge.
Gresham Palace was not merely an office building but the home of British aristocrats (who were related to the Gresham company). The location of the Gresham Palace is just scenic, the windows are overlooking the Danube with the Chain Bridge, and the opposite site’s Buda Hill. During the dark period of World War II, the beautiful building was used as an apartment building for the Soviet soldiers and the palace was quickly neglected.
After the regime change in 1989 Gresham Palace was sold and carefully restored and has been since one of the top romantic hotels in Europe (Four Seasons Hotel). Four Seasons Hotel has one of the best views in Budapest, the luxury hotel has a historic grandeur and breathtaking details such as the wonderful Art Deco ironwork, mosaic tiles, stained glass panels and more.
Look for Gresham Palace on the Pest side, opposite Chain Bridge.
