Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the top attractions of Budapest, the decorative fortification was built in the 19th century and it offers amazing panoramic views of Budapest. Fisherman’s Bastion is located at the Buda Castle District, part of the UNESCO World Heritage sights of the Danube riverfront.
The neo-Gothic bastion has 7 towers that represent the leaders of the 7 Hungarian tribes from the historical ‘Honfoglalas’ aka Conquest of the homeland in 895 when the Hungarian tribes settled down in the Carpathian Basin. Fisherman’s Bastion was built from 1895 to 1902, just about 20 years after that Buda and Pest merged together and became Budapest. The bastion commemorates the Fishermen’s Market of the Water Town part of the royal Buda and never served as an actual fortification.
