Gellert Hill Danube River Sights in Budapest

The 235 meters high Gellert hill is overlooking Budapest and offers a breathtaking panorama for Riverside Attractions of Budapest and the Danube. The historical hill was named after Saint Gerard, the martyr, according to the legend, he was thrown down death to the Danube from this hill on 24 September 1046.

Gellert Hill is packed with interesting sights, such as the Statue of Liberty, the Citadel, the Jubilee Park or the Cave Network. The fascinating St Ivan’s Cave temple can be visited and you might book guided tours as well. A hermit, called St Ivan lived there and used the natural hot thermal water to heal people inside the cave. It is believed, that the springwaters of Gellert Spa are from the same source as St Ivan’s healing water.

Nowadays, we can find 2 Thermal baths at the feet of Gellert Hill. Gellert Spa or Rudas Baths are offering great opportunities to soak in the warm spring waters and feel the healing effects of the natural spring waters.
