Palace of Arts Danube River Sights in Budapest

Palace of Arts in Budapest is located on the Pest side of the Danube next to the National Theater at the foot of Rakoczi Bridge.  The architecturally beautiful palace on the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Danube waterfront is a beloved cultural venue and a unique riverside attraction of Budapest.

Palace of Arts (MUPA as the Hungarians call it) has opened in 2005  and its construction and design won the architectural FIABCI Prix d’Excellence in 2006 (in the category for buildings offering public services). MUPA has 3 main parts: a concert hall, a museum and a theatre.

Bela Bartok National Concert Hall is the biggest section of MUPA, the hall has a capacity of 1699 guests and it houses one of the largest concert hall organs in the world. Bartok Bela Concert Hall features acoustics designed by Russell Johnson and has been built by Artec of New York in association with Hungarian engineers. The concert hall is home to the National Philharmonic and its Orchestra, Choir, and Music Library. Ludwig Museum, the Museum of contemporary art has a gross floor area of 12,000 m2. We can find Eastern & Central European pieces & temporary shows, Pop Art and more from Pablo Picasso to Yoko Ono. The museum was named after Peter and Irene Ludwig who offered 70 art pieces to the Hungarian National Gallery making the base of today’s museum.

Festival Theatre has a seated capacity of 452 guests and it can be found in the east wing of the complex. The theatre is home to the National Dance Theatre and hosts visiting companies too.
